Original Work

A vintage shell form vase called for a loosely serpentine curve of celosia, which mimics ocean coral. Using a sustainable kenzan frog, the large compote arrangement is a looser, more airy Flemish style. I let the Materials be my Muse in the pumpkin arrangement, where the wispy marigolds create movement while the chunky mums anchor the composition around a dried Joe Pye Weed head. The bridal bouquet, romantic and bohemian, was created with a hand-tied method. A large scalene triangle compote arrangement shows off analogous shades of pink. Finally, attempting a casket saddle was possible with the confidence I gained in Sympathy Designs; I used colors from the departed’s home in the recipe.

The Certificate Program in Floral Design at the New York Botanical Garden provided invaluable, current techniques and skills which allowed me to develop my own aesthetic. Each class contributes to what I do daily in design, whether it is for an online portfolio, a small arrangement, or large life event.
